FAQs
What is hypnosis? Hypnosis is both a state of relaxation and heightened awareness. Your mind is more focused but your body is relaxed. You will be able to both speak and move the position of your body if you wish.
What does it feel like?
There is no specific feeling associated with hypnosis; each individual will feel different. Some people don’t feel any different, whilst others say they feel tingly or even "heavy" or "floaty" sensations.
The whole experience is more like having your body comfortably asleep and your mind awake and more alert and focused. The client is always in control and cannot be made to do anything at all which goes against their personal values or ethics. Will I be asleep? No, you are simply extremely relaxed. However, self-hypnosis can help you to relax sufficiently in order to drift off to sleep if you want to - you are completely in control. Will it be suitable for me? The vast majority of people can be hypnotised. You can only be hypnotised if you wish to be. Is it confidential? All issues and problems discussed with the therapist are confidential and will not be discussed with anyone else (unless you give on: underline;">specific permission). Is it safe? It is completely safe. You cannot be made to do or say anything that conflicts with your personal values or beliefs. You are in control at all times and you can come out of hypnosis at any time you wish. You won't suddenly reveal all your secrets, it is totally non-addictive and no drugs or medications are used.
(NB Please note - if you have a specific medical problem, e.g. you have uncontrolled hypertension (high blood pressure), please discuss the use of hypnotherapy with your GP before you commence any sessions with the therapist).
How many sessions will I need?
Many problems, for example, smoking, driving test nerves, simple phobias, may only take one or two sessions. However, depending on the individual and the nature of the problem, a course of several treatments may be required (this will be discussed during the initial consultation).
